Samantha Aabel was born and raised in Alexandria, MN. She attended the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 2015. She then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI where she completed her Master of Science in nursing. While completing her master’s degree, Samantha worked as a RN on the Women’s and Family Care Center at Aurora West Allis Medical Center. She received her Master of Science in nursing, Nurse Midwifery in May 2018. She is certified through the American Midwifery Certification Board and the American College of Nurse Midwives.
Samantha’s special interests are family planning, pregnancy and birth, and providing holistic care for women of all ages. She currently lives in Garfield with her husband, Luke, and their dog, Murphy. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends on the lake, watching hockey, and being outdoors.
Isam M. Alakhras, M.D.

Dr. Isam Alakhras is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. He received his M.D. Degree from the School of Medicine at University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan. His initial post-graduate medical training was at King Hussein Cancer Center from 1999 until 2002 in Amman, Jordan. He moved to Buffalo, NY in 2002 to begin training in Internal Medicine at State University of New York in Buffalo, NY. He also spent two years of graduate training in Hematology at State University. His special interest is in the biology and management of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He enjoys reading, traveling and listening to music. Dr. Alakhras joined Alexandria Clinic as a hospitalist in July 2007.
Julie Anderson, CNP
Julie Anderson is a native of Minnesota. She was born and attended high school in Morris, Minnesota. She graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. After 12 years of registered nursing experience she returned to school and received her Masters in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, from South Dakota State University.
Julie has practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner in the St. Cloud, Minnesota area for 16 years providing primary and urgent care to patients of all ages. Practice sites included traditional in clinic, retail clinic, online and college setting.
She enjoys biking, paddle boarding, reading, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Julie's husband farms near Morris, MN. They have recently moved to the Alexandria area. She is very excited to join Alexandria Clinic and be a part of this medical community.
James E. Andrews Jr. D.O.
As a therapeutic neuromuscular specialist, I provide nonsurgical care focused on improving my patients’ muscular function and minimizing their functional pain. Through a variety of alternative interventions, including physical therapy and injection therapy, I am able to provide my patients with a thorough and accurate diagnosis and specialized treatment plan. I also manage spasticity through the use of Botox® for several FDA approved diagnosis.
As a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and with ongoing training, I constantly strive to offer the latest in therapeutic neuromuscular care to my patients. When I am not in clinic, I enjoy spending time with my wife and our three energetic children, who keep us running all over the state to hockey and basketball games. We also enjoy spending time at the lakes, fishing, and being outdoors.

As an orthopedic surgeon, my practice is focused on treating injuries and conditions of the hip, knee, and shoulder as well as fracture care. I am committed to providing evidence-based treatments for the best possible outcomes, and my surgical expertise includes total joint replacement of the hip and knee, rotator cuff repair, and arthroscopy of the knee and shoulder.
I consider it an honor to be practicing in the region where I was raised. I’m proud to be a member of this community, and I strive to provide the highest quality of orthopedic care to people throughout west-central Minnesota. When I am not seeing patients, I value time with my family and stay active through outdoor activities, like hunting, fishing, and basketball. I also enjoy woodworking and decoy carving.

Dr. Paul Bergstrand was born in Minneapolis, MN and raised in Jamestown, NY. He completed his undergraduate studies at Jamestown Community College, Jamestown, NY and Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, MN, earning his B.A. Degree in 1980.
Dr. Bergstrand did his residency in Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. Dr. Bergstrand joined Alexandria Clinic in 1987. In addition to Family Medicine, Dr. Bergstrand's expertise includes an emphasis on Allergy and Asthma Medicine.
His hobbies include hunting, tennis, travel, skiing (snow and water) and spending time with his family."

Maxwell Berscheit, NP

Maxwell Berscheit grew up in Plymouth, MN. He graduated from Grandview College in Des Moines, IA., with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2008. As a Registered Nurse, Max gained an array of knowledge working with a multitude of diverse patients. He spent ten years working at Methodist Hospital; four years on the Medical/Surgical, Oncology, Urology, Hospice, ENT floor and six years in the Intensive Care Unit. Through Purdue University, he completed the Adult Gerontology Nursing Practitioner program in 2018 and received his Masters of Science Degree in Nursing. He has a strong passion for the elderly, palliative and hospice care.
In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending quality time with his niece and nephew. Max’s parents had a cabin in the Alexandria area and he spent most of his summers growing up on the lake. He is excited to be back in the Alexandria area, as he always considered it his home-away-from-home.
Michael L. Bristow, D.O.
Dr. Michael Bristow was born in Iowa City, IA. Following several early moves, the majority of his childhood was spent in Sioux City, IA. After graduating from high school, he went on to earn his B.S. Degree in Zoology at the University of Iowa. Upon completion of his undergraduate education, Dr. Bristow attended the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences in Des Moines, IA. The four-year course of study was completed with the granting of Doctor of Osteopathic Degree.
Dr. Bristow’s clinical training includes a one-year rotating internship, completed in Dayton, OH and a three-year residency in Family Medicine completed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Bristow joined the Alexandria Clinic as a member of the Family Medicine Department in August 1991. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and certified in bone densitometry.
His interests include the use of computers in medicine, outdoor activities and parenting. Dr. Bristow and his wife, Jean, have one son and one daughter.
Gina N. Brown D.O.
Dr. Gina N. Brown is a native Minnesotan. She was born in New Ulm and attended High School in Sioux City Iowa. She graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with undergraduate degree in Biology then, received her Masters of Science from University of North Dakota in Pharmacology, Physiology and Therapeutics. Dr. Brown received her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from Des Moines University in Iowa. She completed her residency training in General Surgery through Michigan State University and St. John Providence Health Systems in Metro Detroit, MI. She is trained in General, Breast, Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Endoscopic Procedures.
Dr. Brown enjoys camping, hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Rebecca Brugger, M.D.
Rebecca Brugger was born and raised on a farm near Chokio, Minnesota. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology. Dr. Brugger earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota, and completed her residency training at the United Family Medicine Residency Program in St. Paul, Minnesota. Prior to becoming a Board Certified Family Medicine physician, she gained over 8 years of invaluable experience working as a Certified Nursing Assistant, as well as a Resource Advocate in a women’s shelter.
Dr. Brugger focuses on preventive care for the entire family, with particular interests in newborn and well child care, women’s health, prenatal care through 28 weeks, chronic disease management, mental health challenges, and creating an environment that is welcoming and safe for LGBTQ patients. Dr. Brugger loves getting to know her patients on a deeper level and developing a lasting relationship that is based on working together as a team. She takes pride in providing comprehensive care at any stage of life, and will be your go-to advocate in navigating your health.
Dr. Brugger enjoys spending time with her husband, Derik, and their extended family that live in the Alexandria area. In her free time, she loves fishing and relaxing on the lake, traveling, biking, and painting as a creative outlet. Dr. Brugger joins Alexandria Clinic on September 23rd, 2019 and is excited to be accepting new patients.
