Spotlight: Vanessa Kjersten
Meet Vanessa Kjersten. She works in the Food and Nutrition Services department as a cook, clerk, and dietary aide at Alomere Health.
Her career path began in the Philippines where she graduated in 1998 with a computer programming degree from the United School of Science and Technology. Since Vanessa was part of a large family, she got to work immediately after graduation to help support her family. Career and personal opportunities for a young woman in the Philippines weren’t abundant. So, when she met her future husband online, she was ready to start a new life in America.
Kyle and Vanessa are happy building a family and careers in Minnesota’s lake country. With a household of two working parents and a five year old daughter, Kendra Abigail, life is busy for Vanessa.
When asked what talents and skills are required to excel in her position she says, “You need to be eager to learn and grow. Everyone here is a team player with strong values. And since every day is different, there is a huge variety of things to do in our department.” As she matures in her role, Vanessa is excited for the future. “This is a large organization, so I have career growth opportunities at Alomere.”
On her days off, Vanessa is happy to spend the time with her family at the beach in the summer time, or ice skating in the winter. She likes walking downtown with the cute little shops, candy store, and movie theatre. And when it’s especially cold outside, she looks forward to when she can show her family around her home country of the Philippines to see her relatives and enjoy the warm weather.
