One of a kind.

Spotlight: Chrissy Haugen, OTR/L, Occupational Therapist

Having grown up in Fosston, Minnesota, Chrissy Haugen attended the University of North Dakota, earning degrees in Psychology and Occupational Therapy. She joined Alomere Health in 2004 and has spent more than two decades continually expanding her skills to bring the latest, most effective therapies to the region.

As an occupational therapist, Chrissy has a special passion for helping patients recover from brain injuries and strokes. She is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and recently achieved certification in the Multicontext Approach, an advanced therapy technique focused on improving functional cognition.

The Multicontext Approach helps patients build self-awareness, self-monitoring, and practical cognitive strategies within everyday activities. By working through real-life tasks such as cooking, shopping, or job-related activities, patients strengthen skills like planning, problem-solving, memory, and attention in ways that directly translate to daily living.

Chrissy is currently the only certified Multicontext Approach therapist in Minnesota, and one of just 17 in the entire nation.

There is a lot of access to rehab therapy in Minnesota. But at Alomere, we're able to offer a higher level of training with multiple sub-specialties. We also work incredibly well together, which is a huge benefit for patients who need more than one service.

Alomere Rehabilitation Services

With more than 30 rehabilitation therapists working together at Alomere, collaboration is second nature. “Many of our neurological-focused patients need a combination of occupational, physical, and speech therapy,” Chrissy says. “Because we’re all here together, care is seamless. We’re constantly learning from each other—and that benefits our patients the most.”

Chrissy is excited to share that Alomere Health will begin working with chronic stroke survivors who have had a VNS (Vagus Nerve Stimulator) implant in order to restore function and independence. “It’s amazing to be able to offer this level of care right here in Alexandria.”
