Pediatrics chose Dr. Ann Renner.

Spotlight: Ann Renner, MD
Dr. Ann Renner never planned on moving back to Minnesota. But after completing her pediatric residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Detroit Lakes native realized what she had been missing. “I had spent most of my life trying to get away,” she admits. “But shortly after starting residency, I was craving the kind of connection that only a small town offers. My brother had just had his first child, and I was missing all the milestones. I knew I wanted to be closer to family—and to the kind of life I actually wanted.”
It was during medical school rotations that Dr. Renner discovered her true calling. “I originally thought I wanted to go into Emergency Medicine,” she says, “But pediatrics was the only rotation I looked forward to. I love the way kids approach their health. They’re open, they adapt, and their families are often eager to help them succeed.”
What truly excites Dr. Renner about joining Alomere Health is the chance to care for patients the way doctors use to—offering full-spectrum of care. “In big-city systems, you’re often locked into either in-patient or out-patient care,” she explains. “But here, I get to do it all—newborn visits, clinic care, hospital care. I didn’t want to be boxed in. I wanted to practice like the old-school country doctors who really knew their patients.”

That rare opportunity—and the chance to be mentored by long-time pediatrician Dr. Brian Carlsen—sealed the deal. “He promised me at least a year of mentorship, and I’m definitely holding him to that,” she laughs.
As access to pediatricians in rural communities becomes increasingly rare, Dr. Renner’s arrival is a big win for Central Minnesota families. Her energy, empathy, and strong belief in prevention will soon make a noticeable impact.
Outside of work, she’s tackling another challenge: remodeling her first home. “I bought a fixer-upper, and I love interior design and DIY projects,” she says. “Between that and my Australian Shepherd, I’ll stay plenty busy.”
