Medication-Assisted Treatment

Are you or a loved one struggling with opioid (heroin or prescription pain medication) addiction?

At Alexandria Clinic, we have physicians certified to prescribe medication to help patients overcome opioid addiction. This is known as Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).

What is Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)?
MAT is the use of medication, in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies to provide a “whole-patient” approach to the treatment of substance use disorders.

What will these medications do?
These medications will relieve the withdrawal symptoms and psychological cravings that cause chemical imbalances in the body. MAT programs provide a safe and controlled level of medication to overcome the use of an abused opioid.

What can I expect at my first visit?
Members of the care team and a physician will meet with you to assess suitability for MAT. If you are a suitable candidate, you will develop a plan of care with members of the care team that works best with your lifestyle. MAT can be short term or long term depending on what your needs are.

Our MAT appointments are integrated into our family medicine clinic so they remain confidential like any other appointment
